All cheese is sent in its original packaging (best for the cheese stock). You'll need a sharp knife for any vacuum-packed cheese and clingfilm for handling. Most wedding cakes will stand under their own weight if stacked in order. Firmer cheese should be placed on the bottom when building a tiered cheese wheel cake. Creative cheese wedding cakes can be decorated with fresh fruits, herbs, and edible flowers. Seasonal fruits like grapes, figs, pears, and berries can be used to decorate a cheese cake, adding both flavour and visual appeal. Edible flowers like pansies or violas can add colour to the cake and should be safe for consumption. Only cakes with soft cheese (Bries or Delice) lower down need dowelling - we'll notify you if this applies. The order process for cheese wedding cakes may require self-building the cake upon delivery. No decorations are included, but a few flowers, figs, grapes, or herbs work wonders! Additionally, name cards can be placed on each tier to identify the type of cheese. Accompaniments like crackers and chutneys should be arranged around the cake. A rustic wooden log slice, a slate board, or a tiered cake stand can be used to display a cheese cake.
Absolutely! We often tweak our pre-designed wedding cheese cakes to suit personal taste, and you can design your own completely bespoke cake. We have over 150 cheese (not all listed on the website) and can source most varieties. It is possible to customise a cheese wedding cake by selecting different types of cheese for each tier. Tiered cheese wheel cakes can be built by stacking different-sized wheels of cheese. Cheese wedding cakes are available for purchase online or in-store. Contact us with your guest count, preferences, and any other food options available, and we'll recommend options and mock-up designs for you.
As a guide, we suggest cheese wedding cakes are made up to 100-150g of cheese per head at an average cost of around £2.00 per person. This will help you decide how much cheese you need.
If your cheese is being served after a meal, you can go for the lower end - around 50-75g per person. For evening receptions where guests haven't eaten much, aim for 100-150g per person as they'll need something more substantial!
Quick calculation: For 80 guests at an evening reception, you'd calculate: 100g × 80 = 8,000g = 8kg. So you'd want a cake weighing around 8kg.
The top tier of a cheese wedding cake can include a small, visually appealing soft cheese product, adding a touch of elegance to the overall presentation. To give your guests a more exciting cheese experience, add a selection of accompaniments such as crackers, chutneys, and pickles to the cheese board.
A 4kg cake (about average) takes a few hours to warm to room temperature, then cheese is fine out for up to 8 hours. Don't place near radiators or sunny windows. You want it at room temperature for guests to enjoy, so being out for at least an hour is good. If setting up in the morning for an evening event, you can alternatively place a box over the cake with refrozen ice packs inside, then unveil it later. A large, heavy, hard cheese should be selected for the base tier of a cheese wedding cake to ensure stability and support for the upper layers. Semi-hard cheese that can support weight should be used for the middle tiers of a cheese wedding cake.
Leftover wedding cheese can be wrapped, refrigerated, and enjoyed a few days later. You can also freeze cheese if necessary - just portion it up before freezing. Hard cheese like Cheddar last 6-8 weeks in fridge once opened, whilst softer varieties like Brie last 2-3 weeks. Keep cheese in its original packaging until your wedding day for the best results.
